Flossing Bristles: What Are They and How Do They Work?

When we first decided to begin offering customers a compostable toothbrush, we knew we had to give them every reason to choose our product over the competition. That meant designing a toothbrush equally effectively, but without the typical plastic of modern toothbrushes. We knew we had to include flossing bristles.

Flossing bristles are a relatively new invention in the long history of toothbrushes. Most midrange and high-end toothbrushes come with them. Only the least expensive, generic toothbrushes do not. We did not want our compostable toothbrushes falling into that latter category, so we included flossing bristles.

What They Are

Flossing bristles are specially designed bristles intended to get into the spaces between the teeth. They are almost always arranged on a toothbrush in what is described as a dual-action pattern. The flatter bristles on the inside of the pattern are intended to clean the main tooth surface. Meanwhile, the longer and thinner bristles work their way between the teeth.

A toothbrush with flossing bristles is not a substitute for regular flossing. Rather, it is intended to be a supplement for people who cannot, for whatever reason, floss as frequently as they would like. Still, it can be an immense help to people who routinely have trouble with food getting stuck between their teeth. Brushing with flossing bristles after every meal can help a great deal.

How They Work

As for how flossing bristles do what they do, it's all in the design. The longer bristles designed to get in between the teeth tend to be narrower in diameter. They are also tapered for better penetration.

As you brush, the shorter and flatter bristles glide across the surface of your teeth. The longer and thinner bristles naturally make their way into the spaces between the teeth. That is where they gently remove food, debris, and plaque.

Flossing bristles are standard fare for today's toothbrushes. It wouldn't have made sense for us to develop a compostable toothbrush and not include them. In reality, they don't make our toothbrush all that different. So what does?

Our Choice of Materials

The difference with the EcoFam compostable toothbrush is our choice of materials. For instance, the handle is made from a fully compostable, biodegradable material that easily breaks down to become part of the soil. You can dispose of one of our toothbrushes with the rest of your trash and know that it will not still be in the landfill 50 years from now. It will quickly degrade.

Note that designing a toothbrush with eco-friendly materials doesn't require compromising on quality or performance. We've already talked about industry-standard flossing bristles for cleaner teeth. But we also use silver-infused bristles. They are antimicrobial for even better oral health.

You get all the latest toothbrushing technology in a product that is 100% eco-friendly. What more could you want in your next toothbrush?

Toothbrushes for the Whole Family

If you insist on toothbrushes with flossing bristles for yourself and your family members, look no further than EcoFam. We carry compostable toothbrushes for both adults and kids. You can outfit your entire family with new brushes that will do the job without harming the planet. And to make it as easy as possible, you can even sign out for a toothbrush subscription.

It was only natural that we would include flossing bristles in our 100% eco-friendly compostable toothbrushes. If you would like to know more about them, do not hesitate to contact us. And if you are ready to order, all our products are available directly from our website.
