Never have Americans been as ready as they are now to pursue a zero-waste lifestyle. Here at Ecofam, we believe that zero-waste can also apply to a daily oral care routine. This is why we produce eco-friendly products, including toothpaste tablets and compostable toothbrushes. We want every product from our brand to contribute to a zero-waste oral care routine.
If you are looking to transition to a zero-waste oral care routine yourself, we hope you will consider Ecofam products. Our number one priority is sustainable oral hygiene. We make products designed from the ground up to promote excellent oral health while also contributing to a zero-waste lifestyle.
Here is how to make that transition:
Toothbrushes and Toothpaste
The starting point is to replace both your toothbrushes and toothpaste. Ecofam offers biodegradable toothbrushes made with natural materials, like cornstarch. Our toothbrushes are designed to break down quickly and easily in soil. When you dispose of an Ecofam toothbrush, you can do so with the knowledge that it will break down and become part of the soil.
As far as toothpaste is concerned, consider Ecofam sustainable toothpaste tablets. They are tablets sold in sustainable packaging instead of a plastic tube. You just pop a tablet in your mouth, chew to form a paste, and then brush your teeth as normal. Ecofam toothpaste tablets are easy to use. They are also convenient, travel well, and are made with natural ingredients.
Other Oral Care Products
As you transition to a zero-waste oral care routine, look at some of the other products you use. Perhaps you use mouthwash. Replace it with Ecofam peppermint mouthwash concentrate (in liquid form) or our peppermint mouthwash tablets. Both products come packaged in environmentally friendly packaging.
Though we do not carry eco-friendly floss at this time (perhaps we will in the future) there are plenty of sustainable floss products on the market. A biodegradable floss could be made from something like silk coated in beeswax.
A water flosser is another option. Rather than using traditional floss, you clean the spaces between your teeth with a small device that relies on pressurized water. A water flosser eliminates the need for disposable floss.
Conserve Water When You Brush
The transition to a zero-waste oral care routine doesn't end with the products you use to clean your teeth and mouth. It also includes water conservation and reducing contributions to the waste stream. As far as water is concerned, you can make a point of conserving it while you brush.
Rather than brush while the water is running, wet your toothbrush and then turn off the water while you are cleaning your teeth. Rinse with water from a cup so that you are only using just what you need. Some people don't rinse at all. That is yet another option.
Start as Soon as You Can
We would never ask you to throw away all the oral care products currently in your home in favor of the Ecofam brand. Nonetheless, you can start transitioning as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Next time you need toothpaste, consider Ecofam sustainable toothpaste tablets instead. When it is time to replace your toothbrush, consider our biodegradable toothbrushes.
The thing with transitioning is that it can take time. So gradually, as you replace your oral care products, replace them with better alternatives from Ecofam. Meanwhile, be careful about water conservation and recycle as many packaging materials as possible. The more plastic we can keep out of our landfills, the closer we will get to the goal of zero-waste oral care.
