Are you among that group of consumers who use an electric toothbrush? If so, good for you. But if not, do not assume you need to switch to an electric model. It really is okay to use a manual toothbrush.
In fact, there are definite advantages to sticking with a manual model. One of them is the ability to opt for a plastic-free, compostable toothbrush. It is good for both your teeth and the environment. We carry compostable toothbrushes as part of our commitment to zero-waste oral care.
We invite you to look at all our oral care products. From compostable toothbrushes and toothpaste tablets to both mouthwash tablets and liquid mouthwash concentrate, we are a leading provider of zero-waste oral care products. With that being the case, let's take a closer look at electric and manual toothbrushes.
Why Some Consumers Go Electric
Electric toothbrush manufacturers have done a fantastic job of reaching consumers with their message. Consumers choose electric toothbrushes for a variety of reasons, including:
● Perceived better plaque removal
● Easier brushing with orthodontics
● Easier brushing with certain mobility limits
● 'Extras' like timers that ensure you are brushing for at least two minutes
We cannot argue with the fact that electric toothbrushes have their appeal. We also can't argue that some consumers believe they are better than their manual counterparts. But from our perspective, electric toothbrushes have environmental downsides too.
No Plastic and No Batteries
Electric toothbrushes are manufactured with copious amounts of plastic. Part of our mission as a zero-waste oral care provider is to remove as much plastic as possible from the equation. The less plastic in a toothbrush, the more environmentally friendly it is.
Another issue is that electric toothbrushes require batteries. Older models tend to run on alkaline batteries. These are essentially single-use batteries that are thrown in the trash once they are dead. Newer models are more likely to use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. But even lithium-ion batteries don't last forever.
Manual toothbrushes obviously do not require an external power source. You are the power source that brushes your teeth. You don't have to plug yourself into a wall charger or replace alkaline batteries in the back of your head to keep running.
One Way or the Other, It's a Tradeoff
There is no such thing as a perfect toothbrush. Both manual and electric toothbrushes have their pros and cons. So it's really a tradeoff. What is most important to you in your oral care routine?
Our priorities are pretty much two-fold: we want oral care products that do the job but also harm the environment as little as possible. We sincerely believe that we have found that sweet spot with the EcoFam brand.
Products You'll Be Happy to Use
EcoFam products are products you will be happy to use. Our compostable toothbrushes for the entire family are more than capable of getting your teeth clean. And as each toothbrush wears out, feel free to replace it with another compostable brush in the knowledge that your old brush will naturally biodegrade and become part of the soil once again.
As long as you're planning to use a compostable toothbrush, why not pair it with a jar of EcoFam toothpaste tablets? Our toothpaste tablets are packaged in reusable and recyclable containers. If you can repurpose a container for some other use in your home, great. Otherwise, recycle it with your other household recyclables.
It turns out you don't have to use an electric toothbrush. You can if you want to, but we believe that compostable manual toothbrushes are a better choice.
