The homepage of our website features a section with the heading 'mindful ingredients'. We chose the wording of that heading with purpose. By mentioning mindful ingredients, we wanted to make it clear that we choose our ingredients with both you and the Earth in mind.
We believe in sustainable oral care. But we do not believe in compromising product quality or customer health in the process. So we choose ingredients that are as safe and sustainable as they are effective. That's the idea behind the mindful ingredients principle.
No Harsh or Harmful Chemicals
Whether you choose EcoFam toothpaste tablets, mouthwash tablets, or mouthwash concentrate, you are getting a product designed to promote a clean, healthy mouth without relying on any harsh or harmful chemicals. You're getting products designed to promote oral health without harming you or the environment.
We choose natural ingredients like hydroxyapatite and mint. Here is what we don't include in our products:
1. Fluoride
Fluoride has been a common ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash for decades. Manufacturers first began adding it when it was discovered that fluoride could help prevent tooth decay. But hydroxyapatite offers the same kind of protection.
The concerns with fluoride start with the possibility that excess exposure could be a contributing factor to neurological issues. Excess exposure could also lead to dental fluorosis. From an environmental standpoint, fluoride doesn't have much of an impact on the planet as a pollutant.
2. Peroxide
Peroxide is sometimes added to oral care products to promote teeth whitening. Fortunately, it is biodegradable and not harmful to the environment. But it can irritate the mouth and gums with regular exposure. Long term use of peroxide-containing products can lead to tooth sensitivity and gum damage.
3. SLS Sulfates
It is believed that SLS sulfates can contribute to lung, eye, and skin sensitivity. There have been additional concerns raised about SLS sulfates contaminated with a known carcinogen during manufacturing. In terms of environmental impacts, sulfates can harm marine life. Manufacturing certain types of sulfate products also relies heavily on natural resources.
4. Preservatives
We do not utilize preservatives because there is no need to. The natural ingredients in our toothpaste tablets, mouthwash tablets, and mouthwash concentrate are shelf-stable for extended periods of time.
5. Artificial Colors and Flavors
Finally, EcoFam doesn't make use of artificial colors or flavors. Things like mint and cinnamon take care of themselves. Why add artificial ingredients when natural ingredients do a better job of making our products visually appealing and tasty?
Let's Be as Natural as Possible
We realize that there is plenty of controversy surrounding things like fluoride, peroxide, and sulfates. We also understand that the science is not settled on whether or not such ingredients are harmful in moderation. That is not the point we are making here anyway. What is the point?
Rather than pushing the envelope with artificial and suspect ingredients, why not be as natural and safe as possible? There is no need to take our chances with fluoride when hydroxyapatite offers the same cavity fighting properties. There is no need to add artificial flavors when we can use natural mint.
